The Center for Latino and Latin American Studies (CLLAS) facilitates interdisciplinary research, teaching, and public programming related to Latin America, the Caribbean, and the Latinx experience in the United States. CLLAS accomplishes this important work in numerous ways:
- Promotes interdisciplinary research and teaching on topics and themes related to Latinxs and Latin America and the Caribbean
- Serves as the home for the undergraduate interdisciplinary minor in Latino and Latin American Studies and the Graduate Certificate in Latin American Studies
- Sponsors public lectures and seminars by renowned scholars in Latinx and Latin American Studies
- Hosts academic and cultural programming and community outreach activities
- Documents the history and experiences of Latinxs in the Midwest through the NIU Latinx Oral History Project and Voces of a Pandemic Oral History Project
- Prepares students to reflect on and respond to the needs of their local and global communities
As the principle intellectual hub for showcasing the voice of, and creating dialogue around, Latinx issues at NIU, CLLAS hosts programming and offers mentoring that creates the “home away from home” atmosphere that help us to recruit, retain, and graduate successful Huskies.
Your contribution will help us create new resources and support existing opportunities for students affiliated with CLLAS. In particular, your gift will allow us to fund academic and cultural programming, undergraduate student scholarships, graduate student research travel, and the NIU Latinx Oral History Project. Go Huskies!
