Environment, Sustainability, and Energy
Support the Institute for the Study of Environment, Sustainability, and Energy

The NIU Institute for the Study of Environment, Sustainability and Energy elevates research, education, and community engagement around topics to improve conditions for current and future generations.

The Environmental Studies bachelors degree program offers students the space to analyze solutions to energy demands; assess the impact of environmental, climatic, and energy challenges facing society; and learn how to promote sustainability and related policies.

Recognizing that some of the best learning occurs outside the classroom, students participate in hands-on learning through for-credit internships, faculty-led research studies, study abroad programs, and other high-impact opportunities.

Call for support - provide financial assistance to increase student participation in high-impact practices - focus on students in underserved communities or disadvantaged background. Goal is to use a diversity, equity, and inclusion lens to advance opportunities for students interested in studying the environment, sustainability, and energy.

Examples of ways your donation will help students:

  • Invest in active student involvement across cutting-edge research topics in countries around the world.
  • Advance student internship opportunities with organizations and businesses that employ best-practices to benefit the social, environmental, and economic needs of communities.
  • Promote student participation in conferences, community clean-up days, and fieldwork to enhance their formal education with practical application.
  • Enable students to travel abroad to learn about sustainability and bring that knowledge back to benefit advancing environmental justice.
