Alumni who were part of Fraternity and Sorority Life at NIU share a common bond. While the details of our specific organizations may have been unique, there are many values common to all fraternities and sororities.
As members of the Fraternity and Sorority community, we were challenged to achieve academic excellence, develop our leadership potential and give back to the local community. We accepted the challenge and excelled.
The experiences we had allowed us to create connections that have endured long after graduation, lifetime friendships and pivotal professional connections.
These are all things that we want for our NIU students today, but we need your help to bring these opportunities to them.
NIU is currently home to 41 Greek chapters with about 700 members, which represents a 53% reduction in student participation in Greek Life over the last seven years. Reversing that trend is an important part of the university’s efforts to reach its goals for enrollment and graduation rates. It is also an important part of helping our current students succeed.
An alumni-led Greek Revitalization Presidential Task Force has been established to help bring the Greek community back to life and to support our students and the surrounding DeKalb community.
The task force has been at work for a year putting together recommendations to revitalize Greek Life at NIU. Their recommendations will be made public in the Summer of 2022.
The vision of the task force is a thriving fraternity and sorority community that supports the Annie Glidden North neighborhood, the NIU community, and provides safety for all and generates opportunities for our students.
Your donation will provide support as we work to revitalize fraternity and sorority life at NIU through the community shared values: scholarship, service, siblinghood, leadership, and cultural awareness.
A healthy, vibrant fraternity and sorority community is a vital part of university life. Join us as we revitalize this rich heritage and tradition at NIU.
