NIU’s campus is rich with iconic and historic landmarks such as the Freshman of 1903 Kissing Bench, the NIU Letters in Martin Luther King Mall, and over 25 major pieces of public art. From Alexander Calder’s “Le Baron” to Dann Nardi’s “The Balance of Equality”, these and other works enhance our beautiful campus providing an inspiring and stimulating environment that demonstrates our commitment in our mission to “transforming the world though artistry”. This fund will allow us to beautify our campus including maintaining and repairing these and other landmarks ensuring that the culture and legacy of NIU is passed down for future generations of Huskies.
SPECIAL INCENTIVE: Sculpture Tour: Donors who make a gift of $250 or more to the Campus Beautification Fund along with a companion of their choice are invited to join us for a central campus sculpture walking tour.
This tour will highlight notable works of art starting with the newly installed "Hero, Tribesman and the Light" sculpture in front of the Stevens Building. It will then proceed through the Martin Luther King Mall before finishing at the Alexander Calder Sculpture "Le Baron" on the East Quad, discussing the many works along the route. It will be led by either the Director of the NIU Art Museum or a NIU University Architect from the Architecture and Engineering Services unit of the Facilities Management and Campus Services Department.
