Undergraduate Research
Contribute to Undergraduate Research Scholarships
At the Office of Student Engagement and Experiential Learning (OSEEL), we champion undergraduate research across diverse settings—classrooms, communities, fields, labs, art studios, stages, computers, and libraries. We support students from all majors in finding, securing, and excelling in these enriching experiences.

By contributing to the Student Engagement Fund, you empower students to engage in research alongside faculty mentors. Your gift will go towards scholarships of $1,200, which funds one student for an entire semester.

Undergraduate research is a high-impact practice that enables students to:
  • Develop problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • Build meaningful relationships with faculty mentors
  • Strengthen their graduate school applications
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills to potential employers
  • Enhance their communication skills, particularly through presentations at the annual NIU Conference on Undergraduate Research and Engagement, where all funded researchers showcase their work

Your support can make a significant difference in a student's academic journey and future career. Thank you for considering a donation to the Student Engagement Fund.

Hear from a few current students about the impact of receiving funding through the Student Engagement Fund and how it helped push forward research projects and opportunities for them:

"Receiving funding through OSEEL had a profound impact on me, both personally and academically. It allowed me to dedicate time and resources to my research project, enhancing my understanding of complex microbiological concepts and research methodologies. The financial support relieved the stress of balancing work and academic commitments, enabling me to focus on my research goals and academic success." -Vrinda Brahmbhatt, Biological Sciences

"Participating in a faculty-mentored research project has enhanced my academic experience by providing hands-on learning that extends beyond the classroom. It has taught me how to apply theoretical concepts to real-world problems, work collaboratively, and communicate findings effectively. These experiences have prepared me for academic and professional success, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow through NIU’s research programs." -Lilliana Campbell, Psychology
