Friends of the University Libraries Membership
Friends members' annual donations allow the group to provide substantial support for a variety of activities and initiatives benefiting NIU students, faculty members and the community. These range from the purchase of rare or unique printed materials for the library collection to the acquisition of specific equipment and development of original digital materials.
Any gift of $35 or more qualifies the donor for 2022 membership in Friends of Northern Illinois University Libraries.
Digitizing the Northern Star:
The Northern Star has recorded and discussed events on campus at NIU for over a century. NIU Libraries' collections include a near-complete set of the Star's publications in a paper format that is now becoming fragile and therefore unsuited for in-person use. Your contribution can help Libraries faculty and staff members, as well as student employees, to scan these publications and make them available for free use online as part of the NIU Digital Library.
Katherine Walker Library Endowment:
The Katherine Walker Library Endowment provides funds for an NIU student or students to take part in a paid internship in the University Libraries. This experience can prove valuable for students interested in pursuing a career in libraries and archives, or otherwise working in the rapidly growing field of information science.
