There are a number of ways you can support University Libraries during Huskies United, including the following:
Alebrijes Exhibit Programming
Goal: $3000
On January 29 Northern Illinois University Libraries opened a new exhibit displaying large Mexican sculpture pieces known as alebrijes. The exhibit, which will remain in place until November 8, presents a collection of 21 pieces created by six artists from Mexico City. The DuPage Mexican Cultural Center in West Chicago selected the pieces and provided them to the library.
The University Libraries have an opportunity to bring several of the alebrijes' creators to DeKalb for in-person programs. We seek support to arrange for the artists' travel expenses and honoraria.
Collaboration Stations: Expanding Capacity
Goal: $3000
In 2022 the University Libraries installed several collaboration stations on the third floor. The stations consist of a large monitor, which users may connect to a variety of devices, attached to a table. Students typically use the stations to share the contents of a laptop computer's display to the monitor. This allows a single student to view the material at a larger scale, and share it with others seated at the table.
The four stations currently in use have become very popular. The University Libraries seek funds to install two more.
Women in STEM Lecture Series
Goal: $3000
The Women in STEM Lecture Series provides women scientists, technologists, engineers, and mathematicians with an opportunity to discuss their work and experiences in professional life. It engages members of the community to share experiences and foster inspiration and camaraderie within fields where women and other gender minorities are historically underrepresented. We seek to raise funds that can provide food for those attending the series’ noon events as well as honoraria and travel stipends for off-campus speakers.
