Below you will find answers to many common questions about Huskies United 2024.
Why is NIU doing Huskies United?
Beginning at 4:25 p.m. on March 20 and running for 1,895 minutes, Huskies United will focus on moving NIU forward by raising support for the University’s strategic funding priorities. Donor support advances these priorities and enables NIU to be an agent for change and an engine for social mobility.
What are Giving Days?
Typically, Giving Days are a twenty-four hour “digital pep rallies” designed to increase donor participation. Giving Days help to capture donor affinity and ignite pride by inspiring constituents to share what they love about NIU!
Why should someone give on this particular day?
While any day is a great day to give back to students, this online giving day is special. Several generous donors have offered up matching and challenge funds for gifts made during this 1,895-minute period, meaning the impact of your gift will be magnified!
Is there a minimum amount someone can donate?
For gifts processed through our Huskies United platform, the minimum gift amount is $5, which will help keep NIU moving forward together.
What are the ways that I can make my donation?
Gift can be made via the Huskies United website at dog.niu.edu. Gifts can also be made over the phone by calling 877-GIV-2-NIU.
How can I get involved?
By sharing our social media posts, not only will your friends be able to hear about Huskies United, but they might donate as well! Make sure you use #HuskiesUnited when you share your stories about NIU, so we can see them as well!
Are international donations accepted?
Yes. We accept gifts made internationally via credit cards during Huskies United.
How do I receive a puzzle?
To receive a custom 1,000 piece puzzle, you must donate $50 or more to the area of your choice. Puzzles will be shipped out 4-6 weeks after Huskies United has closed.
I have a question. What should I do?

What if I don't see the program, scholarship, or department to which I would like to donate in the list of participating groups?
Please select “Other” in the "Area of Giving" dropdown, and then select "Other" in the "Fund Designation." Then you can write in your designation in the box that appears. If no designation is stated, gift will be allocated to the Northern Fund.
Are gifts tax-deductible?
Absolutely! Upon successful completion of your gift, you will receive an email with a receipt for your tax purposes.
Can someone give through the mail? How about phone? In person?
Yes! Gifts can be made in advance through the mail. Please be sure make the check payable to the NIU Foundation and to include a note on the memo line of the check that this gift is part of Huskies United 2024. Gifts can be mailed to the NIU Foundation P.O. Box 746 DeKalb, IL 60115-0746. During Huskies United, gifts can also be made over the phone by calling 877-GIV-2-NIU.
My employer will match any gift I make. Who should I contact about this?
That's great news! Many companies will match employee giving which can double - or even triple - the impact of your gift. For more information about submitting employer matching gift forms please reach out to matchinggifts@niu.edu.
How long will it take my puzzle to be shipped?
Please expect 4-6 weeks for puzzle to arrive to your home address.
