Below you will find answers to many common questions about NIU Day of Giving 2019.
WHAT IS THE NIU DAY OF GIVING?
The NIU Foundation is hosting its first-ever day of giving on May 7, 2019 at 4:25 PM and ending on May 9, 2019 at 12:00 AM. This 1895 (our founding year) minute period will be a time for the NIU community to come together and show their Huskie pride by supporting NIU students, scholarships, and programs.
WHAT ARE GIVING DAYS?
Typically, Giving Days are a twenty-four hour “digital pep rally” designed to increase donor participation. Giving Days help to capture donor affinity and ignite pride by inspiriting constituents to share what they love about their alma mater, NIU!
WHY IS NIU DOING A DAY OF GIVING (DOG)?
To use online channels to highlight what’s great about NIU and to provide constituents an opportunity to show their Huskie Pride and transform the student experience through being an ambassador, inspiring others, and giving.
WHY SHOULD SOMEONE GIVE ON THIS PARTICULAR DAY?
While any day is a great day to give back to students, this online giving day is special because we are striving to reach a goal. In order to reach our goal we are matching gifts to increase the impact of your giving.
HOW DO MATCHING GIFTS AND CHALLENGES WORK?
Matching gifts and challenges give opportunities for donors to make their gift go further. You will be able to view all active matching gifts and challenges by visiting: https://dog.niu.edu/giving-day/14305/leaderboards
HOW CAN I GET INVOLVED?
By sharing our social media posts, not only will your friends be able to hear about #NIUDOG, but they might donate as well! Make sure you use #UnleashTheDOG and #NIUDOG when you share your stories about NIU, so we can see them as well!

WHAT IF I DON’T SEE THE COLLEGE, DEPARTMENT, OR PROGRAM I WOULD LIKE TO DONATE TO IN THE LIST OF PARTICIPATING GROUPS?
Please select “Other” and type in where you would like your gift to go to.
ARE GIFTS TAX-DEDUCTIBLE?
Absolutely! Upon successful completion of your gift, you will receive an email with a receipt for your tax purposes.
ARE INTERNATIONAL DONATIONS ACCEPTED?
Yes. We accept gifts made internationally via credit cards on the Day of Giving.
CAN SOMEONE GIVE THROUGH THE MAIL? HOW ABOUT PHONE? IN PERSON?
Yes! Gifts can be made in advance through the mail. All gifts post-marked by May 7 will be included in the final counts for the NIU Day of Giving. Please be sure make the check payable to the NIU Foundation and to include a note on the memo line of the check that this gift is part of the NIU DOG. Gifts can be mailed to the NIU Foundation P.O. Box 746 DeKalb, IL 60115-0746. On the Day of Giving, gifts can also be made over the phone by calling 877-GIV-2-NIU or in person at the NIU Foundation offices in Altgeld Hall.
MY EMPLOYER WILL MATCH ANY GIFT I MAKE, WHO SHOULD I CONTACT ABOUT THIS?
